The Pilates Method Done Correctly
Learning to do the actual Pilates Method makes a great foundation for just about everything else you do.
Doing Pilates isn’t about the exercises. It’s about understanding how the foundational principles get your body in a position to execute the exercises so that you can get the most out of it. Anybody can move springs on a reformer and if that’s all you’re doing, you will feel like you’re spinning your wheels and you never see change or improvement. If you learn how your body should move with proper postural alignment in bio-mechanically safe way, you are getting closer to the Pilates method. This is when you will see and feel change. This is where the benefit is.
Pilates reformer seems to be available everywhere these days, but just because you’re using a reformer doesn’t make it safe, nor does it make it effective. It isn’t the apparatus that makes it better or safer, it’s the activation and postural restoration techniques you learn in the Pilates Method that make it safer and effective. Take the time to learn how diaphragmatic breathing, scapular placement, rib cage placement, pelvic placement, and head placement contribute to proper body mechanics and make everything you do feel better.
